HealthPoint is pleased to offer the classical formula, Qi Cong Ming Tang (Boost the Qi, Sharpen the Hearing, and Brighten the Eyes Decoction). This is an updated and expanded version of Ni Wei-de's famous formula first recorded in Ni's Yuan Ji Qi Wei (Explanation on the Subtleties of the Original Mechanism), published in 1370, C.E. The development of this formula was strongly influenced by the 13th century work of Li Dong-yuan. Qi Cong Ming Tang is for the preventative or remedial treatment of qi and yin vacuity with vacuity heat, qi stagnation, and blood stasis, and phlegm turbidity causing or as a result of aging, with decreased auditory, visual, and mental function. Indications for use of this formula can include, among others, fatigue, loss of strength, shortness of breath, feeling lightheaded upon standing, gray hair, dry skin, decreased visual acuity (including presbyopia, night blindness, blurred vision, and corneal opacity), age spots and varicosities (including cherry hemangiomas), “broken veins” (e.g., rosacea, spider nevi), low back and lower limb soreness and limpness and/or chronic pain, lipomas, and pterygium. In addition to the physical signs and symptoms commonly associated with aging, Qi Cong Ming Tang works to address a number of associated cognitive and sensory deficits (such as decreased memory, vision, and hearing). As we age, health concerns can include hyperlipidemia (elevated blood fats), atherosclerosis, and elevated blood glucose, it is also nice to know that various herbs within this formula are listed as having anti-lipemic, anti-atherosclerotic, and hypoglycemic properties (i.e., they are said to lower levels of blood fats and blood sugars). Others (e.g., Chuan Xiong and Nu Zhen Zi) are noted as having cardiotonic effects, while Dan Shen, Chuan Xiong, Nu Zhen Zi, and Huang Qi are coronary vasodialators. Chuan Xiong, Dan Shen, Ge Gen, and Huang Qi are also peripheral vasodilators. Qi Cong Ming Tang contains commonly used herbal medicinals to treat patterns of qi and yin vacuity with vacuity heat, qi stagnation, blood stasis, and/or phlegm turbidity. As such it may be used as a preventative to delay onset of age related symptoms as well as part of a therapeutic treatment plan to allay or remediate certain effects of aging.
